En France, on trouve des gisements de Saint-Jacques en Normandie et en Bretagne. Ce mollusque est hermaphrodite : la chair blanche est l\u2019organe g\u00e9nital m\u00e2le et la partie orange est l\u2019organe femelle. Une coquille Saint-Jacques peut se reproduire \u00e0 partir de deux ans. La reproduction a lieu de mai \u00e0 septembre. Une coquille Saint-Jacques peut produire des millions d\u2019ovules ! Une fois d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es, les larves grandissent en quelques semaines et se fixent sur la roche pendant 10 semaines pour atteindre leur taille adulte. La coquille Saint-Jacques se d\u00e9tache \u00e0 partir d\u2019un \u00e0 trois centim\u00e8tres et est commercialisable \u00e0 10,2 cm. Le lieu (qu\u2019il soit noir ou jaune) n\u2019a pas de p\u00e9riode de reproduction d\u00e9finie, car le cycle de reproduction du lieu d\u00e9pend essentiellement de la temp\u00e9rature de l\u2019eau. En effet, la ponte et l&rsquo;\u00e9closion des \u0153ufs se fait dans une eau entre 8 et 10 degr\u00e9s. On retrouve donc le lieu jaune dans les profondeurs de la Manche, de l\u2019Atlantique Nord-Est et de la Mer du Nord. La reproduction ne se d\u00e9roule pas au m\u00eame moment selon les r\u00e9gions. Dans la Manche par exemple, la ponte a lieu en janvier et f\u00e9vrier, alors qu\u2019en Norv\u00e8ge elle ne d\u00e9bute qu\u2019au mois de mai.
